Zangqa gets Russian coaching gig

Former Blitzboks assistant coach and Kings backline coach Vuyo Zangqa will further his career in Russia.

Zangqa, who lost his job when the Kings were liquidated, has been thrown a lifeline by Narvskaya Zastava in St Petersburg.

He will be the head of the club's sevens programme and also assist in the 15-man game.

'After the Kings were liquidated, I hoped that someone would appoint me – based on my experience,' Zangqa told Rapport newspaper. 'I talked to one or two [South African] provinces, but nothing came of it.

'I received a call from a friend from Russia. He told me they had heard I was available and that they were looking for a sevens coach. After a few Zoom meetings, they offered me a contract.'

Zangqa is accustomed to coaching abroad. Before joining the Kings, he was a Kenya Sevens assistant coach and then head coach of the German Sevens side.
