'It's challenging to study while playing rugby'

UJ and SA Sevens Academy speedster SHAUN WILLIAMS tells RugbyRocks.com about his studies and what motivates him the most.

I'm studying towards a Transport Management degree at the University of Johannesburg, because I really enjoy transport logistics.

I'm in my third and final year, which is very exciting and I’m looking forward to graduating.

I must admit, though, it is incredibly challenging to study while playing rugby. It takes discipline, consistency and responsibility to stay up to date with your university work.

What motivates me is knowing that I will fulfil my dream of completing my studies without putting the financial stress of university fees on my parents, and create a life for myself after rugby.

So I’m not only doing this for myself but for my parents too. I always aim to please them and make them proud. I’m truly grateful for their selfless contribution and support in my life.

Being educated makes life much more hassle-free and creates a lot of opportunities for a person. I strongly advocate for people to get an education.
